Position Overview

Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, the Quality Manager is responsible for supporting the Operations department by ensuring that all company products and services meet consistent quality standards. The Quality Manager's primary responsibilities are planning, coordinating, and implementing business activities to ensure quality in production and distribution. This role will utilize analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills to review systems; identify gaps against business requirements, regulations, and industry best practices; and develop solutions

Essential Job Functions and Basic Duties

  • Understands customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality processes.
  • In conjunction with the Sales, Service, and Engineering departments, develops and reviews specifications and testing for products and processes.
  • Ensures adherence to quality guidelines as well as regulatory obligations.
  • Oversees all aspects of Quality Control, including but not limited to incoming inspection, inprocess testing, final testing.
  • Oversees all aspects of Quality Assurance, including but not limited to training,
  • documentation, investigations, CAPAs, statistical monitoring, and audits.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency and to reduce cost.
  • Works with the Production Manager and Materials Manager to plan Quality activities in accordance with the production and shipping schedules.
  • Sets priorities for the Quality team based on business and customer needs.
  • Works with direct reports to ensure work processes are completed as scheduled.
  • Manages employee relations for Quality personnel, including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, training, goal setting, performance management, coaching, counseling, discipline, termination, career development, and succession planning.
  • Ensures adequate staffing for required Quality processes. Reviews and approves attendance, PTO requests, and OT as needed. Provides written requests an justification for additional headcount, as needed.
  • Establishes adequate scheduling of staff, including opportunities for cross-training and rotation.
  • Provides verbal and written communication to all levels of the organization.
  • Builds team relationships across functions, making departmental decisions within the framework of the broader organization's needs and priorities.
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are followed. Champions and sustains a speak up culture within the department. Models the company's core values.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Maintains communication between the department and management through regular operational reports and/or attending staff meetings.
    • Assists the Production and Materials Managers and other team members when needed.
    • Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly.
    • Attends meetings and training as required.
    • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems or concerns.
    • Contributes to the fulfillment of department and Company objectives and goals.
    • Leads change initiatives. Identifies the best approach for implementing processes.
    • Recommends improvements to the policies and procedures that affect the department.
    • Adheres to established security safeguards, procedures, and other Company policies.
    • Performs other duties, as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications

      Education and Experience:

      • Bachelor's degree or related field or equivalent experience.
      • Five years' experience in Quality management.
      • Three plus years of supervisory/management experience.
      • Experience with manufacturing and quality systems.
      • Lean Six Sigma experience and/or certification preferred.
      • ASQ certification preferred.
      • Experience with ISO quality systems preferred.

        Required Knowledge:

        • Knowledge of the company's operations and management.
        • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
        • Demonstrates understanding of IPA products, related technologies, and IPA's inventory process.
        • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
        • Understanding of quality systems.


          • Ability to investigate problems, establish root cause, and develop corrective/preventive actions.
          • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
          • Strong mathematical skills, with working knowledge of data analysis and statistical methods.
          • Keen attention to detail and time-management skills.
          • Ability to follow verbal directions.
          • Ability to work well both alone and with a partner or team.
          • Ability to satisfy the physical demands of role: reaching, stretching, bending, and walking during daily routine, with ability to stand for long lengths of time.
          • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality with dedicated professionalism to job and duties.
          • Ability to adapt to changing schedules or routines.
