Process Engineer - Global Nonwovens LCM - Web Handling JOB DESCRIPTION General Position Summary Life Cycle Maximization (LCM) Scientist or Engineers at Kimberly-Clark work as members the Global Nonwovens Manufacturing (Supply Chain) organization to develop and implement new products, processes, materials, or technology concepts, and provide continued support for commercialized materials. The Professional for this role will provide guidance and leadership in identification, development, optimization and problem solving for nonwoven web transport, winding, and related systems, often referred to broadly as web handling. Specific projects will relate to how nonwoven webs move, are wound or unwound on either a nonwovens asset or the converting machines of the businesses who purchase roll goods from the Nonwovens sector within Kimberly-Clark. Candidates should have a relevant degree and/or experience across Global Nonwoven or Business Unit technologies, and a demonstrated ability to effectively interface with a broad range of team members, global customers, manufacturing partners, and Business Unit Leaders. The role reports to a Team Leader and receives direction in the form of specific project and/or sector objectives. General Responsibilities * Support complex projects of considerable significance or of a multiplicity of smaller, related projects. For context, complex projects can be budgeted from $0.25 to $10 million dollars in research and capital funding. Individual will carry out assigned project tasks in a timely, diligent, and professional manner in order to accomplish objectives within prescribed scope, schedule, and cost. * Conceive of creative concepts leading to new technical innovations, drawing on formal academic training and an understanding of multiple scientific disciplines. * Provide protection to technologies, processes, materials, and products through appropriate use of patents and trade secrets. * Seek, recognize, define, and solve problems to achieve GNW and shared customer objectives. Use LEAN, Six Sigma, or other recognized techniques to identify complex technical issues, help identify the root cause of the problem, and develop control solutions for long-term control and/or containment. * Develop knowledge and skills to be recognized as an effective implementer of research principles, scientific analysis, and project management. * Plan and carry out project responsibilities with assistance and direction. * Communicate and document project plans and results to key customers. * Conduct all communications and transactions with the utmost integrity and honesty to build an unimpeachable business reputation. * Contribute to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both their individual and team contributions to achieve desired business results. * Visibly demonstrate that safety is a value by following safety procedures, maintaining a safe workplace and complying with safety rules. Develop equipment, processes and products that meet safety codes, policies and guidelines. Actively participate in achieving organization and personal safety objectives. Specific Responsibilities * Perform experiments in pilot or commercial facilities designed to improve the web handling performance of nonwoven materials. Initial areas of responsibility will be on "Total Containment Flap" materials produced as a component of baby diapers, and "Outer Cover" material for adult incontinence materials. Position requires 15-30% travel. * Identify, develop, or validate new predicative test methods to characterize the web handling consistency and converting performance. Qualifications * Candidates must possess a degree in a major scientific or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, with specific educational training as a subset of a degree that relates to the application of scientific principles in the technical field known as web handling. This can include but is not limited to methods to characterize nonwovens, utilize emerging technologies to solve known problems in this field, or the development and refinement of existing web handling processes to improve uniformity in winding/unwinding processes. * Capability to develop theoretical equations to simulate and model common web handling issues like wrinkles, camber, and non-uniform winding conditions. This should then be coupled with the ability to design practical experiments to test and validate the theoretical models. * Alternatively, demonstrated equivalent scientific ability, based on extensive experience and appropriate education. * A demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects within required timeframes. Preferred Qualifications * Manufacturing experience though co-op education experiences at Kimberly-Clark or with another company who manufactures nonwovens or products made from nonwovens, or a K-C Mill assignment, or previous K-C Business Support/LCM experience. * Ability to translate theoretical approaches and scientific principles to pilot and/or commercial scale solutions to solve problems related to safety, quality, or cost opportunities. * Experience with project management and execution. * Fluent in computer modeling software such as ABAQUS to self-develop programs to aid in the execution of project work. * Ability to assimilate new software packages, including coding, to develop predictive tools in the field of web handling.
