  • Reviews patient history, physical information, medications, procedure request and study protocol.
  • Explains procedure and orients patient to the sleep center.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust if necessary.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors per accepted standards.
  • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and adjust if necessary.
  • Perform positive airway pressure mask fitting
  • Produces optimal recordings of EOG, EMG, EKG, SaO2, airflow, respiratory effort, CPAP and BIPAP.
  • Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values such as body - - - - - - - position, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate and heart rate.
  • Continuously monitors patient activity, ensures patient safety and maintains quality recordings.
  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
  • Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, etc.)
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Performs equipment cleaning, minor repairs, and reports the need for any major repairs to the Sleep Center Coordinator. Qualifications What You Will Need: Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies or successful completion of a polysomnography program associated with a state licensed and or nationally accredited educational facility. Must have current CPR in Basic Life Support. Communicates with patients and family members' appropriate education to optimize their care in the hospital. Manages time and equipment effectively and works as a team member to provide the best possible patient care. Maintains professional appearance and adheres to hospital and departmental dress code always. Has daily contact with physicians, nurses, respiratory care practitioners, and other health professionals. Demonstrates effective written and spoken communication skills. Demonstrate appropriate social skills. Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. Maintains current knowledge of sleep and neurodiagnostic standards to maintain safe, quality and up to date standards of care in the hospital Minimum of 6 months' experience Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies or successful completion of a polysomnography program associated with a state licensed and or nationally accredited educational facility Must have CPR certification in Basic Life Support RPSGT /RRT-SD Certification BLS Job Summary: The Polysomnographic Technologist will deliver safe and effective care, which is consistent with the standards of care for this discipline. A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the direction of a registered polysomnographic technologist and the clinical coordinator to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.
