Job Description:
The Deamer Group is currently in search of a Direct Support
Professional (DSP), in Lawrenceville, GA. This is a Full-time,
permanent position for a non-profit organization. Qualified

Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will assist and supervise
adults with developmental disabilities in non-residential and/or
community setting, ensuring their safety. Will provide instruction
in daily living and social skills supporting the successful
integration within the community. Will assist with personal care
and facilitate communication needs. Will provide guidance to the
individuals to become self-confident, independent and engaged with
their surroundings. Will operate company vehicles on a routine
basis and personal vehicle when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistent regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled
shift.
- Must be willing to work at Day Service location or day program
setting when required and cover shifts to meet staffing
needs.
- Constant supervision of individuals / clients in the Day
Services program or in the community.
- Responsible for guiding and supervising residents throughout
shift including overseeing physical care and management of resident
behavior.
- Provide varying levels of personal care assistance and report
any changes to the supervisor or nurse on duty.
- Frequent documentation of client's daily activities, behavior,
and interaction with others, and response to prompts given
etc.
- Must transport using company vehicle as needed to community
activities, shopping, etc. as needed.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds or more when needed which
consists of pushing and pulling 50 pounds when assisting in the
operation of adult-size wheelchairs (electric and manual) and
frequent bending.
- Assist with ambulation and transfers using proper techniques
and equipment as needed.
- Follow principles of infection control and Universal
Precautions.
- Perform assigned direct care support to adult clients with
intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Train and assist clients with daily living skills, monitor
progress, and goal attainment in the community and/or a group home
setting.
- Schedule and participate in social, leisure, and recreational
activities with clients as designated in their goals.
- Maintain daily documentation record for each assigned client
(tracking sheets, Learning Logs, etc.)
- Supervise one to ten clients as assigned either individually or
within a group setting.
- Perform CPR/First Aid when needed.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and attractive environment for
clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Diploma
(GED)
- At least one year of related experience working in a
residential setting providing assistance to individuals with
intellectual/developmental disabilities is preferred.
- CPR/AED and First Aid, valid Georgia Driver's license;
transportation and vehicle emergency evacuation certification; and
QBS certification for de-escalation techniques within 90 days of
employment.
Other Requirements
- Must be 21 years old, must have an acceptable pre-employment
physical and capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds' walking,
bending, squatting, reaching up, out and over; negative drug
screening result and a tuberculosis (TB) screening or chest x-ray;
and have an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) with no more than
two moving violations in a three-year period within the last five
years of a seven-year motor vehicle record report, vehicle
liability insurance and an acceptable criminal record check. Must
have reliable transportation.
- Must successfully receive an "Adequate Functional Health
Literacy" score on the Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults
(TOFHLA)
The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting and
communicating with hearing-impaired clients, providing assistance
in a day services setting, and maintaining certifications and
licenses as required.
