Description and Classification Standards: -Assists with the
planning, directing, and coordinating the vehicle and equipment
maintenance program. Duties may include but are not limited to
managing and supervising the fleet; vehicle and equipment
maintenance; preventative maintenance programs and parts inventory;
development of long-range plans and programs, determination of
compliance with current directives, facility planning and
programming. -Supervision: -Received Works under minimal
supervision. May work independently or with team for completion of
assigned tasks. -Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesThese are
typical responsibilities for this position and should not be
construed as exclusive or all inclusive. -Assists with the
operation of the Fleet Services Office; plans, schedules, assigns,
and supervises work of the administrative, clerical and maintenance
personnel. - Develops and monitors internal procedures and
management systems for control and utilization of equipment. -
Works with the Fleet Manager to insure effective and efficient
management of equipment; Coordinates the acquisition, transfer, and
disposal of motor vehicles; insures the proper accountability of
motor vehicles, and the managing of the fuel allocation program. -
Oversees preventative maintenance programs, service and repair of
passenger vehicles, light trucks, heavy equipment, and other
mechanical equipment. Makes budget, planning and policy
recommendations; may oversee the purchase of supplies and equipment
to ensure spending and purchases are within approved budgetary
limitations and legal guidelines; May order pasts as needed;
participates in long-range planning, capital outlay, improvement
projects and annual departmental budget preparation. - Manages
employees; makes recommendations concerning the hiring, training,
discipline, and promotion of employees; Plans and implements
training, promotes, and ensures safety polices, accurately
completes, reviews, and maintains a variety of records, including
time sheets, annual leave, sick leave, and accident
reports.Communicates effectively and courteously with the public,
department heads, employees, and vendors. May server in an acting
capacity in the absence of fleet leadership. -Data
UtilizationRequires the ability to input, review, classify,
categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising
discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing
such analysis to established standards for the purpose of
recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and
relationships. -Decision Making -Follows standardized procedures
and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. may select
from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks. -
-Leadership Provided -Routinely provides work group leadership,
guidance, and/or training to employees. -Knowledge, Skills &
Abilities -This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge,
skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It
is not an exhaustive list. Knowledge of practices of automotive
equipment management; of budgeting, purchasing, personnel
management and management information systems; of the occupational
hazards of work and the necessary safety precautions which may be
needed. Skill in use of computer and other standard business
software packages. Ability to: perform research and to study and
analyze fleet maintenance issues; to communicate clearly and
concisely, both orally and written; to supervise and appraise the
work of subordinates; to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with the public, co-workers, elected and appointed
officials -Work Environment and Physical Requirements -Occasionally
lift 50 pounds or more, work in tight spaces, walk/stand/sit/bend
for extended periods. May experience excessive noise. -Work indoors
and outdoors. Schedule shift may include evening hours, weekends,
and holidays.
